Cubinet Interactive Unleashes Battle of Immortals

Cubinet Interactive Philippines Corporation who brought Steps and Casvian, released another 2.5D MMOG title - Battle of Immortals.

I was invited to their Press & Media Game Launch last November 18, 2010 for an afternoon of presentation, game demo, and fun-filled activities. This game is now on CBT stage and as we speak, today marks their official launch to the gamers in four cities of the Philippines.

During the Q&A Portion, those who are currently playing in the International server was asked, and they've answered it and as according to their official statement:

"There will be no IP Blocks between BOI Philippines and BOI International. We would like to give players the freedom to choose where they will play. But, rest assured for the Philippine players, BOI PH will have more to offer in terms of events and gimmicks. Also, in terms of purchasing credits for the game, BOI PH will have more avenues than just paying via the use of Credit Cards and we have formulated the Item Mall to better suit the Filipino Market. Unfortunately for the International players who are inquiring about account migration from BOI International to BOI PH, this will not be allowed. Of course we would like to promote free play amongst the Philippine community so we would like it that all players start at the same time."

Game Overview

Inspired by Norse, Greek, Egyptian and Chinese Mythology, this fantasy based 2.5D MMOG gives players a game world rich in content and depth. This game offers players an abundant choices in customization in terms of their character's development, the game's rich pet system as well as the diverse mount system.

Other features include a player-dictated market, the guild system, the quest system as well as game content available in both instances and open-world areas.

Where There's Hate, There's Love

I haven't written anything on my personal blogs lately. Oh wait, this is blog #9999?

But seriously, I miss Blogger. Not for promotional purposes, but I just missed writing here.

About the title, I just flipped it over (if there is such a word) instead of the usual quote. Or maybe this is the original quote, I have no idea.
Lately, I've been reading Learnings in Life - the ones that I've spammed all over my Plurk work profile & Facebook profiles. This is so that I can focus on positive things in life, but lately sometimes it doesn't work. It made me more miserable than ever.

Instead of dwelling & pondering over at my workplace, I wanted to turn my attention in the real world - the people around me that I care, and the people around me that I don't-so-much care about. Don't kill me on that sentence! Let's be honest, everyone has these moments in life.

But instead of good stuff, there's still bad stuff in the real world. Like funerals - I really hate it. The smell of the flowers, and the soft cries around you. And yes, I tend to be either super silent or crying terribly during these days, but either way, there's only one meaning to it - I'm really affected by it. There's reasons that I ask the skies above on why these people had to leave us.

I just hug people - whether I don't like them or not. It's my simple gesture of saying, "I'm still here, if you do need me at all."

I guess people sometimes misinterpret some of my ways, but that's just me. My being silent & hugging people doesn't mean I'm a total ice queen or heartless. I may look like the-girl-who-doesn't-give-a-damn-in-this-world, but I'm not cruel. I really can't say more, but maybe some can tell, and some may notice.

Sometimes I change for the worst, or change for the best.

When people say stuff behind my back, I may deserve some, but not all. This also pertains to everyone else, too. It's really one of the bad habits of us, human beings. Emotions tend to be a major part of everything we do.

We can't make people love us on who we really are, and we can gain their trust easily even thru our words or our feelings. And I can't really give that 100% advice that you're waiting for this entry to end on... so...

Maybe hate really brings out love, too. Who knows? ^_~

Biggest game convention ever! Domination 3! And ZXOnline booth has the most number of activities and tournaments. We conducted everything smoothly and even finished it all without any problems.

My family and I went to Baguio~! I love sightseeing and taking pictures and of course, shopping there everytime we go to their market.

I've never been to Bicol before, and it was my first time thanks to the Globe Gamefest event we conducted - I was able to see the famous Mayon Volcano. The story during its eruption was sad though.

We also went to Davao again~! I love going back there. It's been 4 or 5 or 6 times since I went there, I think? Can't even count anymore!

My fave anime, toys and cosplay convention - now I was able to attend after a few years of MIA of my cosplaying before - and this time, I get to present our games onstage!

New Moon: Interesting New Cast

I may not be a fan of the said first and second movie, however the new casts had definitely took my interest. Once I saw their faces last Friday, that part was one of the few scenes that woke me up from my boredom.

First off, the lovely Dakota Fanning was Jane. She was totally adorable and all grown up for the said movie. I like her outfit too.

Second, Jamie Campbell Bower, the guy who was singing "Joanna" in the Sweeney Todd movie is now Caius in New Moon. Oh by the way, he's also taking part of the next Harry Potter movie. Go figure~

Third, Christopher Heyerdahl took part in the Chronicles of Riddick, and famous in the series "Sanctuary," which I'm also watching in the SciFi channel, is now Marcus in New Moon.

Last, one of my favorite actors, Michael Sheen, ex-husband of Kate Beckinsale, and the famous Lucian of Underworld is now a vampire, Aro. I'd have to laugh, since he was the leader of the Lycans, the werewolves, now the leader of Volturi, the vampires.

Quite a twist in the roles, just sad that they had small parts in the movie. If they had more dialogue and roles soon, the movie may have hope in the future with these kind of actors and actresses.

The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) today deployed three (3) Water Search and Rescue (WASAR) Teams to rescue the stranded commuters and affected families due to heavy rains caused by tropical storm Ondoy, the PNRC Operation Center reported.

WASAR teams of PNRC National Headquarters were deployed in Providence Village, Cainta and in Marikina which were greatly affected by flooding.

In a report of Leo Ebajo from WASAR Team 1, 40 persons were rescued near R. PAPA LRT Station who were stranded because of heavy flow of water in the area.

“Rescue operation here is still in progress. As of now, around 40 stranded persons were already rescued,” Ebajo reported through a text message sent to PNRC Operation Center.

Just Another Day with Him

I changed my notebook wallpaper! Well, just the pics~

So that I'll have inspiration everytime I login. ^_^

We went to Puerto Galera last August 21 and stayed for almost a week - vacation away from... everything. We had fun since our hotel was just infront of the White Beach, and had tons of activities besides swimming; we also hired a tour guide to get to Tukuran Falls - and with luck - we were the first to go there that day, and so I was able to swim. The water there was different from the beach, but it was cold and very clean and clear. We also went to Tamaraw Falls and the scary bridge.

The food was so affordable and yummy (I probably gained pounds again) and had fun during nighttime from the entertainment, comedians, etc.

It was a busy month again for me, since we also had a Grand EB at SM Manila last August 29, and I never expected that all players will be supporting our event.

Last night, a bunch of my colleagues wanted to eat at Little Tokyo in Makati.

But then, it was raining hard, and the six of us (excluding Jay in the driver seat) had manage to squeeze into Jay's car (thanks so much Jay!).

Then we ordered takoyaki - my hubby and I love this - and yeah, I introduced him to this and he was addicted ever since, and then Chardy & JM ordered okonomiyaki (it's like a meat pancake / pizza), but they failed to have me addicted to this (sorry guys!). It's weird though, I always find anything new is yummy.

Today my hubby and I went to Megamall and watched Year One. There had been an awkward moment when a family went in in the middle of the movie and get this - their kids were around 5-6-year-old - and the movie was for us, not suitable for those kids. I just hope the parents knew what they had let their kids watch... -_-"

During the movie we had takoyaki again, sour cream-flavored french fries and cotton candy~! (our usual food while watching flicks)

After the movie, I bought my hubby two pairs of pants - and they were on sale! We also bought a cute green umbrella because our old one was sadly destroyed during the last storm.

We also bought a new keyboard - and this time, we had assurance from the shop that the letters won't fade away - or we get our money back. XD~

I had my bes to send me Paramore's Ignorance (yes this mp3 was from their CD) and the sounds were awesome! Thanks Rei~! Usually mp3s doesn't have that much quality when they're new. ^_^

Anyway, we're back at home - he's playing some PC games, while I'm browsing thru eBay, Hot Topic, Punk and Rave shops, Plurking, and blogging~

We'll be attending my parents' anniversary tomorrow. Tons of my relatives from both sides will be coming too for the party.

It's been a while since I last attended conventions, and like I said before in my previous posts, there are conventions that this time - I wouldn't miss it for the world!

First was the Toycon this year... I love looking at the old and new generation of cosplayers that are still active and passionate until now.

And of course, I admire tons of collectibles that were bought from collectors of different faces - from the youngest to the oldest.

Next was the 1st Metro Comic Con wherein tons of cosplayers and toys again (even PM Jay bought lots of stuff - in which he had commented he was bankrupt), and of course, comics and their artists everywhere! I'm not that updated anymore in the local comics, however I smiled by just seeing Pol Medina Jr. and his famous Pugad Baboy works that even made my strict Dad (a retired Philippine Navy officer) to laugh and be amused at his satirical form of writings.

e-Games Domination III - the event wherein we had successful and smooth programs and activities conducted for ZXOnline, and had tons of fun time with colleagues, friends, gamers, and cosplayers alike.

These are my top 3 so far - since I get to costrip during these events. Hopefully, our ZX Grand EB this August 29 at SM Manila will be a total blast! The prizes for the cosplay contest are sooooo cool! See you there! ^_~

Sounds like Paris and Nicole's reality TV series?

Nah. Lately, I've been inspired on the good and bad things around me. It might be weird for some, but anyway, I grabbed my camera (or someone else's cam) and took a shot...

When you go inside the gaming world (virtually), you forget about the latest updates around you in-real-life: the weather, the calamity in other places, the birth of triplets, and other small things that usually gives a spark or inspiration to someone else, if not you, that is. ^^;

When you feel like you're being scammed or hacked in a game, always think of the people around you in war - whether they are the allies or not, they are fighting for the same thing - they are fighting in the real world for you and me.

If you only eat crackers and drink C2 saying you feel hungry or feel pain just for the sake of gaming, think of the people who never got to eat not one grain of rice everyday, and die in starvation because of poverty.

If the vanity in-game items look ugly to you, think of the people in the fashion world that slaves away all of their time just to make an almost perfect outfit just for you.

If you think you have been deprived from all of the bad things that has been happening to you in work, in home, or just by sitting here and reading my post -

Newbie VS Pro

I've come across many jobs as much as the games that I've played before and currently, and sometimes I ponder on how many things I've experience lately.

This is where a lot of people would analyze a freshman graduate spilling coffee and papers altogether on his/her first day at the office at his/her desk quoting "newbie pa kasi."

It's when a player killsteals or die during a PK or in-game wars, trashtalking and shouting to the world "NOOB KA TALAGA!

While walking around in Ayala Avenue, seeing people looking young and about 20 or 21, with a brown envelope or a folder with their full names in black Pentel pen ink, you would say that is a typical fresh graduate on their way to a 20-story or higher building trying to find ways on not sweating in their blazers or long-sleeved coats, not to stammer during their interview, and not to totally mess up their chance on working on a very prestige and formal company.

When going around in-game, wearing your +10 and above armors and weapons, you'll see in the market next to the beginner NPC is a bunch of players in their beginner's clothes, and chatting around asking for gold and where to's and how to's of the game.

These situations are quite similar, and in which made me smile and think more:

Will they make it? How can they make it? What will they do once they get their first paycheck or first high-level equipment?

Will they say, hey, I ain't no newbie anymore! Look at me now! and laughs endlessly?

Sometimes people ought to think back and say "we've been there, and we can totally relate to you." It's not that bad before when you look intimidated by people around you. And it's human to smile and feel relieved that you made it, and be proud on what you've accomplished. Just try to keep your feet on the ground, and make sure you still remember on where you've been before...

There is no newbie or pro - there's only you and me - and the cycle of life and reality. 'Nuff said~

Paco Park Rocks!

When we had our wedding at Paco Park last February 7, one of our colleagues told us that Jay Contreras (Kamikaze) and Sarah Abad (sister of Kaye Abad) had their wedding at the same place.

Their wedding had a gothic and rockish (if there ever such a word) theme, that I also totally loved the pictures and made me reminisce my own wedding. (I know, ang babaw ko wahahah!!!)

But altogether, I was glad in choosing my dream wedding venue ever since I was a kid, and was also amazed at one of our idols also had their wedding there. \m/

I missed cosplaying so much! I still remember the first one during C3Con, where I cosplayed as Robin Sena of Witch Hunter Robin (the anime series wasn't event aired here in the Philippines yet).

But of course, my fave was the cosplay group of Bleach - and we were the first to cosplay too~ Anyway, I'm a bit sad that I wasn't able to cosplay after that, and of course, there's the most daring costume I ever fit in - Alcione of Magic Knight Rayearth. I was a GM already when I made my last cosplay group skit!

The Pains of Cosplaying

Anyway, there are pros and cons to it. I had to bleach my bangs for x99 as Satsuki before. And the rush of getting the costumes and accessories done, and small parts of action skits and amongst others, the flash of the cameras and photographers asking to take a picture of you. But for the sake of fun and entertainment, that's what we can do for the spectators / audience.

The Most Important Thing

Fun with friends! You can never go wrong as long as you have them by your side.

And for my wishlist before, I intend to cosplay again for e-Games Domination 3. ^_~

Tools of the Trade: Inspirations

It was a long week of posting announcements, conducting in-game events along with the GameMasters, sneaking a few moments of laughs, the occasional gossip, lunch, coffee break, going back to work and finish all the plans and more event proposals, and finishing with a big smile on your face.

This day was one of those rare days that you work and really be happy with what you've accomplish. (I know it may sounds corny, but heck if this day is everyday, I'd be more happy to surrender into the world of corniness - if there is such a word).

Anyway, I started with checking my emails and a couple other emails (1 official e-mail and 2 community mails), checking the forums and blog comments, and random chat with the players in my YM and Plurk.

It's a bit tedious to add up players in your YM, but I still manage to help out when I can, multi-tasking other things as well.

I love making people laugh, especially at Plurk. I'd think of ways of starting up conversations even if it's not game-related. Sometimes even players need to take their time off the virtual world and go back to earth and connect with their physical friends, even if it means of online network again. XD~

And then I updated my social networking sites (name it: Yahoo, Multiply, 2 Friendster, 3 Facebook, etc.) especially the ZXOnline Multiply site. I sneak in a few minutes of making simple backgrounds and cheerful images like these:

Sometimes I'd also borrow books from friends and find online tutorials on web designs. I'm still a long way to go, but I'll get there somehow. ^_~

When I'm doing something - be it playing, doing events, typing away pages and pages of plans, or just chilling - I'd always have music and a cold drink on my desk. And of course, my sanctuary at home - my PC and sounds again, and most of all: my husband. (mushy mushy~!)

Missing Pieces

Ugh.

I haven't updated my gamer profile yet at my navigation bar in this blog. Oh well, I have been trying out new MMORPGs - mostly the cute ones. And so I went to MMORPG.com to check out the games under beta testing stage.

I'm still playing games in my company, however I still would want to explore more, and of course as a hardcore gamer, try new games - especially the International servers. I find it more interesting to talk to them since we have different cultures and traditions and other stuff.

Oh, I've updated my picture in my Friendster and Facebook profile (Mei Yan's profile) since yes I am vain~

I can say I pretty much lived my life to the fullest - being a model (Pink Soda), member of a band (vocalist), artist (seminars and workshops at UP), techie (call center agent), adventurer (even way back before e-Games, I love going out-of-town), GameMaster, Assistant Product Manager, Community Manager...

But hey, during all of my soul-searching, life is still huge. That's how I would describe it, knowing that there are still lots of things to do, but with so little time, how can one girl do all of these stuff?

Way back, I sew dresses, and all of them now sold and hopefully being cared by people who loves art in their outfits as much as I do. I miss those stuff I made with my bare hands, but heck because of my asthma, my medicine is giving me one big side effect - hence I cannot hold the pins and threads. Pfft~

Now, as a married woman, I wanted to create my own family. And yes, that'll include having a baby. ^.^

I confessed to Lee already, however, I still wanted my kids to have a house and a good neighborhood. Because with the PC shop downstairs, I don't think it'll be healthy for the baby to grow up with people trashtalking and coughing out their viruses around, no offense dear customers below! ~_~

Like Brooke Davis in One Tree Hill, the one thing or dream that I still need to fulfill is being a Mom.

Will this mean I have to stop working again? Perhaps... I intend to focus on my baby once he/she is out in this world. I don't want a Nanny to attend to my child's needs.

Just chalk it up to one of my wishlist~ But hey, just because people dream and shed tears doesn't mean that it's a sign of immaturity - and I got this from a book. ^_~

Odd Moments

OK, the topic may be odd as well, however the series of events that happened in these past few months.

I suddenly don't have the urge to shop that much ever since I'm selling clothes of my own, and thru my Direct Selling sideline. My last item purchased was a pink shirt with a rock-ish logo at the back, and it was on SALE.

Most of my purchases were house items: shoe racks, cabinet, a new computer, and now an airconditioner. I even told my husband to keep the rest of our money in our savings bank.

I became unhealthier these past few weeks, as per my one week of absence due to my high fever and flu - which my mom & mom-in-law thought I'm pregnant - which is not true (but hopefully soon!).

When I went to Davao for the 3rd time, the GE players (like Gemma) approached me and they've all took pictures with me with the "we missed you" phrases. This moment had made me smile. And another one took place in PC Quest, where one of the GE players pointed out and said, "hey, it's CM Veya!" We were all talking about stuff in GE, and I had told them I haven't checked my account since last year, and they were laughing and teasing me that my items and characters are all gone. Waaahhh!!!

I miss Pangasinan - where we always go to during Holy Week - and where our hacienda is located. XD~

I love going out-of-town recently. It makes me feel more relaxed. *sighs*

Oh well, btw, I saw the GI JOE movie trailer, and I suddenly laughed when I remembered my friend saying this will be the next movie (we were talking about movies based on comics, books, cartoons, etc.) to hit the screens. Jeez, he can now open his own Psychic shop. Enjoy~!

Marriage in Many Ways

Well, no, not polygamous. :P

I'm here to tell you about my experiences working in e-Games, and now taking a step into my second position or task (or whatever shall we call it) as a wife and soon-to-be mother (hopefully!).

My husband and I met in e-Games, and we were both GameMasters at that time. We both shared the same passion in online games, and other things that I never thought that it was his "requirements" in finding his future wife.

We were the first to test the in-game wedding in Ran Online, he was GM Strycnine and I was GM Celestia.

We both played and monitored side-by-side in our shifts as GMs in Ran Online and Audition. I was Community / Technical GM before but focusing more on community - on which I had excelled in doing so.

When more e-Games titles went by, we never faltered in playing when we had the time, mostly during dayoffs and after shifts. But we now seldom play when he was promoted as Asst. Product Manager and then now as Product Manager in Ran Online. I was the first to be promoted and also the first to get the title of Community Manager (instead of Asst. Product Manager) for Granado Espada, and now in one of our newest MMORPG - ZXOnline.

I thank God everyday for all the blessings he had given us, and mostly to where we are today.

To think we were just plain hardcore gamers before, and became someone now respected and also enjoying what we do at the same time - the same dedication and passion in online games.

I did not cry (only when my Dad made the mushy speech) but mostly, I smiled every second of my wedding day last February 7, 2009 in Paco Park, Manila. This is because I savored every moment and lived my life to the fullest, and after months and years of soul searching, I finally came home at last... and now I'll be creating my own home and my own family soon, together with the man I adore and love for the past three years.

And will we make more children that are as dedicated gamers like me & Lee?

Managing Expectations in Games

I read an article which is very amusing. So quoting from the Escapist, here are the details of his piece:

Each time a new game is announced, gamers react in the same manner:

1. There's a slight pause and an intake of breath as people read, sit back and digest what they have just seen.
2. The net becomes a flurry of activity with fiber optics burning brightly as people clamor to find out more.
3. Repeat No. 2 as necessary until the game is released.

With each blog post and forum thread, the gaming community's expectations rise. What cool features will it have? Will it look better than its competitor? Will it be enough to justify shelling out the cash?

But therein lies the problem. From a developer's point of view, the way gamers react to everything from the initial announcement to the release date can have an impact on the game itself.

Gamers are a shrewd bunch. Each time developers release a new piece of information regarding their work in progress, the gaming community snaps up every shred and meticulously pores over it. With each screenshot and list of potential features, their expectations for the game gradually coalesce into a snowball of hype. And while it can cause games to fly off the shelves on release day, hype can also be fatal.

When developers release screenshots, they want make the game look nice, flashy and drool-worthy. And when they release information about a game's features, they often err on the side of excess. Inevitably, with each snippet of information released, the chorus gets a bit louder: "This game is going to rock." "Kick ass." "Looks awesome." "It can do what? Wow!" Sound familiar?

But what happens when, due to budget, time constraints, publisher demands or a whole host of other issues, they have to cut out some of those cool features down the line? What happens when they release screenshots that lack the polish of earlier images? Gamer expectations plummet, disappointment sinks in and hype quickly gives way to resentment. "Hmm, doesn't look as good." "Man, what a downgrade." "Last generation anybody?" The list goes on.

It's a delicate balance for developers and publishers to cultivate interest in a game while managing players' expectations. The question often is, how much information should they make public? Release too little and there's no buzz, no excitement, no word of mouth. Release too much information, and you run the risk of disappointing fans when the game is released. So which is best?

Ang weird lang dahil ayaw nilang aminin yung nararamdaman nila sa harap ko. Kailangan ko pang malaman yun sa iba.

Nawala ako ng isang buwan, under ng company na nagbebenta ng mga Italian appliances, industry nila sobrang malayo sa Online Gaming. Culture shock ako dahil iba pamamalakad nila, ibang mukha nakikita ko araw-araw, at ciempre, ibang customers. Sobrang detailed sila sa mga bagay na akala natin simple lang sa mata natin: gas range, BBQ grills, at kung anu-ano pa.

Ang term ko noon, wow, na-homesick ata ako.

Tapos sinabihan ako ng mga friends ko back in e-Games na may bagong game. Ciempre kung babalik ako, ndi na ako sa GE since nagturnover na ako dati pa. Yun nga lang, pagbalik ko, probationary ako ulit, kung baga, reset back to zero ang 3-year stay ko before sa kanila. Sabi nga ng mga applicants, partly money, mostly the job.

If you find a job that you love, you'll never have to work a day in your life again.

Calling ko ito. Mejo corny, pero totoo. Nasa gaming ang career ko. I've learned my lesson, and my soul-searching has now ended.

Maraming nagchismis na iniwan ko ang pwesto ko dati dahil sa ibang game. Para sa akin, kahit anong community manager ako ng iba't-ibang games, basta nasa e-Games ako, tutulong ako kahit saan. Active ako kahit anong event, mapa-GE man yan, Ran Online, Cabal at kung anu-ano pa. Present ako lagi doon. Supportive ako dahil second family ko na ang community na matagal na namin binuo. Kahit sino pa ang nauna at nahuli, andito ako para sa inyo.

Andami na nga naka-add sakin sa YM, halo-halo na. So sorry na lang po kung na-ggroup message ko kayo ng ZXOnline. ^.^

Tip ko lang sa gamers: laruin ninyo ang game na gusto ninyo. HIndi ako ang manghuhusga o magsasabi ng kung ano ang dapat ninyo laruin. Kanya-kanyang taste lang yan. Wag sana natin haluin ng pulitika ang lahat. Have fun - heto ang motto ko sa lahat ng nilaro ko nang online games.

So bago magpasko ang New Year, sana lahat ng mga masasamang ugali mawala na. Para sa akin, ang paglalaro ay libangan, at ang 2nd house ko ng mga taong gusto kong makasama. Hindi ako naging gamer at manager para sa pulitika.

Game Previews: Zhuxian II

Journey to Immortality

This Oriental-themed MMORPG, Zhu Xian, had its name and story that caught my attention.

Remember my first preview on the 2 videos? There's a connection on the three main characters, possibly a love triangle. I'm not sure who's the bad girl, or if the leading man is on the good side. I've never read the book wherein this game was inspired from it.

But according to ZXOnline's Official PH Community Blog, the story was a love triangle - wherein the leading man fell inlove with those two main lady characters, one in green, and the other in white. I wonder who's love is greater than the other?

Anyway, there are a lot of discussions that howcome e-Games got this game since it's under Perfect World. However, if we all read closely, the developer named themselves after their first game, which is PW, hence everyone got confused if they're releasing the same game. Actually the name that they're pertaining to are the developers - the Beijing Perfect World Co. Ltd.

That is how we read it from the press release... hopefully the others will follow and understand the content.

I loved the background scenery though, it gives out that "Asian feeling" to it. Call me corny or mushy, but I find MMORPGs with romance themes quite interesting and entertaining. I'm such a total cornball to stuff like these. ^.^

The flying swords, the costumes and the scenery reminds me of the movie, "Hero," played by famous actors & actresses such as Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi and Maggie Cheung.

We all hope that the unique features and game systems will push the MMORPG industry more than the usual. Until then, almost every gamer is anticipating for the said game - perhaps to enjoy it, just try it out, or eventually will play all throughout the next months after its release. ^_~

Aftermath: Congratulations Ran Team Philippines!

After a long day in SMX Convention filled with all Pinoys supporting their country, of course, and also enjoying the said Ran Global Tournament.

I was there to help out again, in merchandise, selling all kinds of Ran GT souvenirs, and also since I'm also studying photography these days, I borrowed a DSLR from my former colleague and friend, and also became a photographer awhile ago. I helped out also one of my friends back in my 'WeAreAnime' days, Ana, with her first-time field photography for Mangaholix.

I was also the information center of all e-Games staff, where to find them, etc. XD~

At first, we all thought heaven and hell have decided to twist the fate of Ran Philippines Team. The first 2 matches were lost, but suddenly gained so much by winning 3 consecutive matches! Thus, enabling them to go into semi-finals up to championship.

Let's skip a few parts where everyone was watching, screaming themselves hoarse, and cheering for the team by shouting Laban Pinas!

The championships is best of 5, wherein they tied on the 4th battle, where everyone was already cheering so loudly on the final match - in which Team Philippines won, and for my fave moments, was they took out 2 of the opponents' characters at once: Double PK!

Last June, I was able to check out http://www.granadoespada.com/ and watched Hakkyu Kim & the rest of the IMC peeps discussing the latest developments for Granado Espada. I've watched the cute voodoo pets as well~ ^.^

I hence call them, "Emo Pets~"

My former boss even told me, "ilalabas na yung fave mo na pets, Bea."

Finally! I've like watched the 2 videos a trillion times (yeah, I downloaded both of them from the GE Korean website), and now I get to see the cuties~!

But the maps will be larger than ever, according to IMC. I dunno the details yet, since I just translated on what they were saying on the video (the interview video is quite big, I'll try to upload it soon), plus I was curious though on the "new civilization" that they're talking about.

So pushing my thrills & excitement aside, I do hope the GE peeps will help out Aethrin. But I did had fun with making his "Baron" theme.

Another off-topic, I'm glad the Girl Gamers are pushing thru and growing. I was also dreaming that all GE girl peeps of the SouthEast Asia will have a grand EB (that'll be certainly one big heap of gals~!).

The Different Colors of Life as a Gamer

OK, before anything else, I would like to post a disclaimer on my article below that this is purely my opinion, no strings attached, no politics, no "claiming someone else's" opinion, and no intentions of hypnotizing everyone who reads this or sending a double-meaning message. This is just for sharing purposes again, and I do not need any reactions or getting into trouble. So whoever that gets "hit" in the face, I'm sorry, but again, everything that will be posted is not intended for your experience - and it may be just coincidence that you got hurt or that the situation is a bit familiar.

As I've mentioned before in my farewell letter, I am affected by players who literally have to do everything to get what they want. I know it's a human thing, however, the consequences that they would have to deal with - are the ones they never expected.

I want that in-game item so bad, I could kill somebody...

Let's just hope that it was intentional for an in-game situation, but yeah, some gamers tend to hurt someone in the real world. If you happen to watch the documentary for the online gamers last year or so, you could remember the guy who got ambushed by a group of players outside an iCafe shop, just because he looted the players' friend's rare item. He claimed that he only picked it up because it was dropped. The knowledge on how the players got to him, or know who he is, still remained an unsolved case till present. But yeah, although the guy was big & a bully himself, he was outnumbered by the group, and was confined to a hospital.

Hmm, what if I try to trick him?

Scammers are everywhere - be it in the virtual world or the real world. As I've said, most would do anything to get what they want. They'd scam you, steal everything, and leave you dry. Yeah, it sounds harsh, but those little phrases like "I'll make your 1,000 gold into ten thousand folds more if you'll just provide me your password" sounds pretty tempting, and most often, the new ones get duped. There may be tons of hacks & cheats today, but don't fall for the "password trick" cheat. It only falls into one word - FAIL.

you know that *beep* game? it's a total rip-off of that *bleep* game before~! noooo, really? *gasps*

Exaggeration? But true. I often see these on new game articles - complete with the rude & out-of-the line comments. The word "rip-off" is my first hated word, but I only use it on fashion designs (commonly when the designs are totally been cut 'n' copy fresh from someone else's idea in the Internet like deviantART works). They say this game was a rip-off of the previous games, blah blah blah. But let's face it - most of the developers would find something from the old ones and make it develop even more entertaining, more state-of-the-art, etc. But don't use the word unless you have EVIDENCE to take it up to the courts. Then we will all totally appreciate your effort, unless you have some other objectives on bringing up that word? Uh-oh, naughty naughty little anonymous comment-making human being.

I am perfect, so bow before me or die!

That's why my star sign was right today: Why are you so busy trying to make everything perfect? Just relax and be human. For both worlds sake, let's not act perfect, nor try to impose this idea to everyone else. Let's just sit, breathe, and enjoy the online games that has been brought upon us.

If for some, this may be shocking, but it's really happening. Most would invest, and gamble in the vast world of online gaming, however most have already forgotten what we started years ago in playing: enjoy a good game, and have fun.

Ran Online PH Team & Bowling

My original plan was to meet with the usual gang at the Bowling Center in Megamall, but since my fiance was already there with the Ran peeps, I went to visit their practice.

In Tagalog mode po tayo dahil ang praktis nila ay importante. Baka may nagmamasid na taga-ibang bansa. XD~

Magaling sila, pero kailangan pa rin i-hasa yung teamwork nila. Nakakatuwa lang kasi seryoso sila katulad ng mga Philippines team para sa WCG.

Nagsuggest ako sa kanila na magusap, kahit nasa gitna ng labanan. Importante rin kasi na alam ng ka-teammate mo kung ano yung tactics na gagamitin. Saka dapat iisa lang muna ung target, kung sino yung uunahin, hindi yung kanya-kanya ng tira. Sayang ang damage rin 'di ba? Sabi rin ni PM Lee: "magusap tayo ng Tagalog, para ndi alam ng taga-ibang bansa yung gagawin natin." ^_~

OK, I may not be the biggest fan of Hello Kitty, but this unique cat had shared a piece of my life during my toddler days where she was my lunchbox & my 1st wristwatch. I had beg & pleaded before, according to my parents, to buy me those two cute items.

And yes, she was also the name of the said online game by Sanrio.

Memoirs of Me - A Community Manager Part I

From a hardcore gamer to a GameMaster, now to an Assistant Product Manager / Community Manager of Granado Espada.

How did it happened?

May 2007

My boss and very close friend Ivee and I were both GMs before. She was also the head of the GM team before, and was promoted as Product Manager of GE. I was suppose to apply on another department in e-Games when Ivee informed me that she wanted me as her assistant for Granado Espada. At first I was a bit excited and at the same time, scared, since I had played GE during its first testing, however I never did reviewed it that much. And so, before transferring, she gave me the advance pass for GE before its open-beta testing, and was able to play more and familiarize with the features and every functions in the game.

I reviewed a lot before they announce me as GE Philippines CM (yes, they have CMs in all regional partners). I was able to chat with Hrin (Regional CM), RohNaga (Singapore CM), and Selwyn (Malaysia CM) in MSN before going to the battlefield. :P

But in GE, you have to pick out your alias. RohNaga & Selwyn did not use their own names (I don't know if it's OK for me to post their real names XD), so I was hesitant at first. I cannot use my GM names before, since it was already a known persona for every game on those alias that I used.

At first, I used "Esthesia," a name I saw on random sites that provides pre-made layouts and graphic designs. But then, I find that players may have difficulties on pronouncing my alias. ^^; And so, I used Veya because most of my Gothic friends in the underground community pronounce my name that way (yes, like Vanity~).

But unlike the famous GMs you have known and loved, we have a different task and department to fill in. Quoting from CM Hrin: "I am not a game master. I'm your community manager, meaning to say that I use a normal playing account, just like the rest of you. I can't make Vis rain from the skies above. Neither can I summon all of Monsters Inc. to do the Macarena in front of Andre Janzur. My role as your community manager is to keep you guys updated with the developments and news updates of GE, to get feedback from you guys, to answer any doubts or queries you may have, and of course my most fave role of all… to be your friend, protector and guardian angel whenever you feel lost or alone in this world. :) Naturally, my roles will evolve with time, but the essence of it remains - that of community building."

And with that, I can only use normal game characters just like anybody else. We do not have cool armors or weapons, and we are not ridiculously rich (in-game or in-real-life! XD). It may be strange or lame to others, but I find it refreshing to be like a normal gamer since I get to speak and interact more with players with them not thinking I am doing naughty stuff or being worship like a God or something. @_@

I loved playing GE because of the MCC system, plus the fact that it was set to the Baroque era - the brick road, the corsets, lacey outfits, skirts, and the pirates. Instead of trying to play to increase my level and experience, I’d rather cruise to the town and check out all the quests from the town’s NPCs.

As a gamer myself, I love MMORPGs, like GE. I spend half of my day playing, working, and shopping (in-game and in-real-life). There are lots of updates from the Closed Beta unto the Pre-Open Beta, so I really hope that the players would enjoy playing since there’s more to expect from the game.

Perfect World Co. Ltd., a leading online game developer and operator in China, has announced the launch of the “Samsara in the Six Realms” expansion pack for Zhu Xian.

The new expansion pack contains a large number of new features. The Hermione we all have known and loved in Harry Potter movies have turned and blossomed into a beautiful young lady. And here's the latest news of her growing fame and career:

Emma Watson, who plays Hermione in the Harry Potter films, is to replace the Pirates of the Caribbean actor Keira Knightley as the face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle.

Eighteen-year-old Watson has reportedly signed a two-year contract with Chanel worth £3m.
She will replace Knightley when the latter's contract with Coco Mademoiselle runs out this summer. Knightley will remain with Chanel in a new role.

Watson has already developed a close association over recent months with the luxury fashion brand, which has dressed her for film premieres and parties.
Chanel is expected to officially announce the Coco Mademoiselle deal next month.

Warner Bros, which makes the Harry Potter films, is understood to have been involved in approving the deal.

During the past few weeks of my vacation leave before my 1st day at Mondo Cucina (Smeg Philippines), I decided to hit the malls.

First, I went to Robinson's Galeria, ate my fave Takoyaki, and had my dessert at Cerealicious where they made cereals, ice cream, chocolates, milk, and shaved ice together. I chose the flavor "Harry Butter and the Finger of Azkaban." Yeah, they use famous movies for flavors. Anyway, the flavor was made up of frosted cereal, butterfinger, vanilla ice cream, candy sprinkles on top of the milk & shaved ice.

Then I bought some clothes for my new job, and a few pieces for casual wear. I know, I'm a girl, so sue me. :P

I went to Megamall today and had a very late lunch at the French Baker, coz I have this craving for tomato sauce in my pasta. Kudos to their beef & tomato menu, it was the taste that I have in mind.

Then I went to Powerbooks, and good thing they have 20% discount since the interior design books cost quite a lot. I bought the biggest and most informative kitchen design book, complete with installation of refrigerators, hot water, etc. Then I also bought a sewing book (I'll be asking my mom to give me her old sewing machine), and a Filipino Cuisine book. Don't get me wrong, I know how to cook - I just want to improve more by alternative flavorings, ingredients, and other techniques. ^^

After crashing back to my house, I took few shots from my cam - I miss uploading in my DA. ^.^

My bestfriend & former college classmate texted me & informed me if I wanted to work with her in GMA 7. But I politely refused, and told her I'll probably gain more experience first before hitting broadcasting - my major.

Yes, this is what I do besides gaming. It's what we can call as my other life. :)

I don't have screenshots that much - usually GM Psybot was the one who conducts the in-game events, and spend time with the players there.

But I got to bond with them during on-ground events; one in which I have to wear the e-Games tube (with the old logo on it) in the cold temperature in Baguio. Good thing my trusty hoodie jacket kept me warm.

They were a bit shy, but fun to hang out with. Most of them were already high levels in O2Jam, and I was intimidated because this game was one of the hardest for me to play.

They also called me "the devil GM" because I wore that infamous devil's horns with red lights during my facilitating the event. XD~

I also had fun during the Tarlac Cybergames and the "mishap" of the in-game tournament, which we resolved in a flash. All's fair in love and games! But seriously, the pressure of the shouting and laughter at the same time gets me all hyped up~ (I facilitated Audition and O2Jam, and also helped out with Ran Online's tourney that day)

Eventhough I look like I was beaten by thousands of mobs and my throat was dry, I still manage to bring out a smile and answer the other inquiries of the players every after event.

So, kudos to the players of O2Jam! ^_^

I finally found my oldest screenshots ever!

Morticia Addams - since I always wear black, they hence gave me the name in Audition once it was released. But I wasn't that good in playing back then, players actually pwned me during my first dance with them. @_@

I wore the CuteVon Dutch Style from Top to Bottom~ And the first featured outfit in the official website before was chosen by me - the Gothic Lolita Dress. From the cute lolita themes, I decided to change my outfit to punk - hence they called Tritania as "Ate Avril" because of the Aurora hair, black tube, plaid skirt, and knee-high boots. She was more popular than my GM character, and most of the players told me to dress-up like her.

Still in keeping with my "Gothic" theme, I changed my name to Noir - and I was super active in conducting in-game and on-ground events that I enjoyed as long as the players were happy. ^^

Anime Previews: Romeo & Juliet

Before I continue on my memoirs, let's have a break shall we?

Another upcoming anime series by Gonzo will make another legendary hit (hopefully) on its debut of a remake/rendition of Romeo & Juliet. To those who loved playing Granado Espada, and other Renaissance-like aspects will definitely see this one.

However, contrary to what Lord Shakespeare had done ages ago, this one will have a twist of its own. Check out the trailer here:

Here we can see Juliet will have her own action scenes as well.

The story begins with flashback to an infant Juliet escaping the massacre of the Capulet family at the hands of Laertes Montague. It then flash forwards fourteen years later with Montague ruling the fantasy land Neo Verona with an iron fist; Juliet helps the common folk in a Robin Hood-like fashion while Romeo protests his father's cruelty. They meet by coincidence at the Rose Ball and fall in love at first sight. However, when Juliet turns sixteen and learns the truth of her heritage, her love becomes conflicted between revolution and devotion.

Oh yes, the famous star cross'd lovers. The voices (Seiyuu) will be Fumie Mizusawa as Juliet, who also became the voice of Ichiko Aida (Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori) & Minamoto no Hikaru (Otogizoshi); Takahiro Mizushima as Romeo, who also became the voice of Christopher Armalite (Scrapped Princess) and Katsushita (Gokusen).

I know we shouldn't support piracy and stuff, however in Anime series, if it's not licensed yet, it's legal to redistributed accordingly as said in most of the subtitles provided by the infamous FanSubs. I can't seem to find some of the screenshots I had during the random visits in-game, however I found some of the recent ones I took during one of the Ran Online guild's anniversary.

I've also remembered the first e-Games EB at SM Bicutan, wherein we conducted a School Rumble, and everyone, even my co-GMs back at the office, had a blast in managing the in-game tournament. I had a good time, even with the models, since I've taught them in the basics of the game and how to manage the players during the event.

Memoirs of Me - A GameMaster Part I

I started out as someone who has a strong passion for games, just like you and your seatmate in the iCafe, or your fellow guildmate, or your friends who also love to play every now and then. I started out by playing International MMORPGs - and even Ran Online - I started to play it during the OBT stage in Malaysia. Before, I don't even know what a GM is. I wasn't sure if that was a game slang, a system, or a trend in online games. But when I saw a God-like figure with rocking armor, costumes, and weapons infront of me years ago, I decided to become just like one of them - the GameMasters.

My interview was intimidating, since in just half of the day, I got to meet the GM Head and Steve Tsao himself, and he was very friendly since he's also a gamer! After I got in, now what?
It was fun, of course. I get to test everything - new maps, items, armors, costumes, weapons, and skills even before they get to be released. But I share this secret with myself only, and of course with my co-GMs. I cannot disclose any stuff in-game unless they've given me permission to do so, via the official announcements. And the most exciting part is to meet all of these players that has the same passion as I have for the games. And of course, we would talk all-day, in-game, in the forums, and thru the first GC YM that I created. (I still do my tasks well, multi-tasking is my expertise ^_~)

Ran Guild Congress 2007 - I helped out at the merchandise booth and we sold out my fave shirt "Mamaw" in which lots of players were satisfied with their purchases, plus my moment: my skirt is not for sale! ~_~

I also miss the original team - the pioneers! I enjoyed spending lots of time with them, and I also learned a lot from them. Perhaps I owe it to them for my staying as a GM - the experience of what I've expected, and the surprising ones are the foundation of my perseverance and patience in building the community with them. Reunion perhaps in-game? Maybe, and who knows? Everything is possible when you're with them. They're not only my colleagues, but my true friends - those that can tell you to face the harsh reality, and the ones that keep me in track of our goals.

Quoting GM Imrahil on his experience: Exciting because gamers think you're a God, but what they don't know is we still scream like a little kid while getting pwned during PVP

Very true! OMG, most of the time, I'm like all bouncy and laughing on during PK, PVP; anything in-game action always gets the thrill out of me. It's like having a first-time experience on a bike, or infront of an audience or something like that. You can imagine us screaming and guessing who will win, or when the last HP is on the line. XD~

First Fight Club in-game event - your best 8 guild members get to compete

GM BoOM gave me the red outfit with the totally cute backpack. That was like ages ago, wherein GM Solus also wore the outfit, and together, the three of us strolled in the marketplace where we were ambushed by all of the players taking screenshots. I'll try to get that screenshot out of my archives. But it was one of those moments that would always make me smile whenever I'm reminiscing. ^^

There were sad moments as well, this guild telling us that their fellow member died (not relating to the game), and eventhough I never met the player in person, me & GM BadLungs went in-game infront of the E-Room with all of these guild members doing an in-game prayer in memory of their friend. Just what I've learned from an anime, is that when a person dies, eventhough you never got a chance to know them better, will always give you that sad feeling.

Let's go back to happy moments! (I sound like Peter Pan @_@) There's this small on-ground event - the first Ran Online Thematic Cosplay event in Greenhills, where most people would cosplay as their fave characters or even monsters. Since it was sudden, I have to improvise with my own school outfit and the cute Shaman backpack. 10. Warnings will be given for team displaying unsportsmanship behavior or not abiding by the rules and/or listening to the GMs. There will be disqualifications who will receive 3 warnings and/or exploitation of any bugs and intentional disconnections during the match.
11. In case of system failures or disconnections, inform the GMs as soon as possible. If any players are disconnected before any engagement is made, the match will be restarted. The GMs are also responsible and monitor the match at all times in cases like this one.
12. Match Category:

Important Updates for Launch of V2.6!

1. Server Maintenance & V2.6 Patch Update
There will be a server maintenance for Granado Espada on 03 July 2008, Thursday, 0900hrs to 04 July 2008, 0900hrs (GMT+8) for the implementation of V2.6 The Requiem expansion. Players are recommended to avoid activating time-based premium items during this period.

2. Remove All Your Items from Market Manager & Cabinet
Players are advised to remove all their items in the market manager and cabinet prior to the maintenance. Items in the Market Manager and Cabinet will be wiped out when we upgrade to the next version.

3. V2.6 Manual Patch / Full Client Download Links
If you had logged into Granado Espada today, you would have noticed that there are 5MB patches everytime you log in. In order to prevent server overload on the day of V2.6 The Requiem launch, mini packets of 5MB patches will be downloaded to your client everytime you open your launcher.

There are a total of 44 packets of 5MB patches to be downloaded that would enable your current client to patch to V2.6 client.

What happens if I have downloaded all 44 packets? Will I be unable to log into the current V2.4 version?
No worries. You will still be able to log into the current V2.4 version.

What happens if I have NOT finished downloading all 44 packets? Will I be able to log into the V2.6 version?
You will then need to download the V2.6 manual patch to get the remaining files. Take note that you should only run the manual patch on or after 3 July 2008, Thursday.

4. Family Reputation Event
Family reputation plays an important role in V2.6, thus there will be a family reputation reset for the upcoming expansion. All family reputation points accumulated prior to V2.6 will be converted into Nutrition Potions. Every 1,000 family reputation points will be converted into 1 Nutrition potion.

5. V2.6 Patch Updates
New RNPC: Vicente Rio
The very first bard type RNPC whose home ground is in the City of Auch. There will be a special Vicente Rio event coming up on 3 July 2008, Thursday. Stay tuned for more updates!

New Stance: Tactical Assistance
Exclusive Scout veteran stance! Buff your family with Penetration, Reduced Casting Speed, HP Regeneration and Cure Debuffs!

Aftermath: SGG Event in Trinoma!

The GE PH Attendance sheet went beyond than what we've expected, and for this, we are truly grateful!

I saw lots of girl gamers in our booth that day - so I made lots of shameless plugs for them to come on the 2nd Girl Gamer Gathering.

The tournament was crowded with avid GE players as well - 8 teams of 2 passed on the registration cutoff time. And a nice round of teasing and handshaking for every round definitely made my day as well. It's as if I feel like home, I don't know why. ^^

A lot of players bought their boxes and Bellem cards that day. Thanks to the ones who purchased! Hope you guys enjoy your Emilia the Sage and Item of the Month.

Hopefully, time flies fast for July 3 to come!

Anyway, here's the aftermath of the Globe Summer Gimik Games last June 15 in Ayala Mall Cebu - the home of the GE Pinoy Champions (Zouk Raid Party, PH Commercial Launch).

As usual, they spoke in Bisaya - sweet language though, I love the soft accent. ^^

I did the usual presentation for GE - and yes with my usual homemade GE video by moi~ XD

Mechanics
1. All terms and conditions of IAHGames Passport apply. This tournament is open for the test server only.
2. This will be a 2 versus 2 match. Players are not allowed to join multiple teams.
3. Players from each team will be using the pre-made accounts set by the Game Facilitators. They can choose their own MCC team/set of characters from the said account.
4. Each team/player will be using only the consumables provided by the Game Facilitators.
5. Players are to meet at the City of Auch – PvP Officer 10 minutes before the tournament starts.
6. There will be an allotment of 10 minutes for preparation and 5 minutes for the match.
7. Once the 5-minute time is up, it’s hands-off-the-keyboard. Any player with hands on the keyboard will automatically be disqualified.
8. The team to successfully eliminate all 6 characters of the opposing team will be pronounced the winner for that match.
9. In case of a “draw,” both teams will be required to play a “sudden death match.” Players are not allowed to change their character setup. First team to score a character-kill will be the winner of the match.
10. Warnings will be given for team displaying unsportsmanship behavior or not abiding by the rules and/or listening to the GMs/marshals. There will be disqualifications on the team who will receive 3 warnings and/or exploitation of any bugs and intentional disconnections during the match.
11. In case of system failures or disconnections, inform the marshals as soon as possible. If any players are disconnected before any engagement is made, the match will be restarted. The marshal is also responsible and monitor the match at all times in cases like this one.
12. Match Category:
• Eliminations – 1 match only
• Semi-finals – 1 match only
• Finals – Best of 3 matches
13. Schedule may change prior to the availability of the participants during the call time. Participants will be disqualified during no-show for 5 minutes.

RECONQUISTA: WAR OF THE NEW SETTLERS
NO. OF PARTICIPANTS – 10 PLAYERS
Mechanics:
1. All terms and conditions of IAHGames Passport apply.
2. All new players are the only ones that can participate in this activity.
3. The new players will use their new accounts for leveling.
4. Marshalls will give them the signal to start leveling from the Reboldoeux Queen’s Gate in Caravaggio Server.
5. The participants will be given an hour of leveling.
6. After 1 hour, hands up, and marshals will be taking notes on to who has the highest level during the 1 hour leveling.
7. In cases of a “tie,” they will have a 1-on-1 PVP tournament in the Triple X Triple PVP room.
